Our mission is to strengthen critical infrastructure security through insightful data analysis.
Network Perception is a startup company that launched in the spring of 2013 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Research Park. Founded by a team of experts on network security and critical infrastructure protection, Network Perception is developing and network analysis technology for critical infrastructures.
The founding team behind Network Perception consists of faculty : Prof. David M. Nicol and Prof. William H. Sanders, as well as researchers: Mouna Bamba, Dr. Robin Berthier, and Edmond Rogers.
For years, Prof. David M. Nicol and Prof. William H. Sanders of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have co-led the development of the network access policy tool, NetAPT. The development of the technology was largely directed by the Ph.D. effort of Sankalp Singh, a graduate of the University of Illinois who is now at Google. Mouna Bamba directed the software development, which has led to the recent U.S. patent of the tool’s design. The development was also guided by Edmond Rogers, who has extensive experience working in industry as well as working with the auditing process. The success of NetAPT as a research project led the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to provide funding to support the transfer of the technology towards commercialization.
